Outbreak Responder Team Privacy Principles

The Outbreak Responder Team led by Dr. Eric J Nelson, MD PhD, wants to demonstrate its commitment to your privacy and the privacy of patients you may serve. Therefore, we disclose herein our information and privacy practices.

The software was created to enable health care professionals to better manage large numbers of patients with infectious diseases and to improve epidemiology. We want health care professionals to feel comfortable using our application and therefore, we work hard to ensure that the privacy and security of personal information is protected and confidential. The following Privacy Policy provides details regarding how this is done.


Information Collected

The Outbreak Responder Team collects personal information that you submit when you first register and then collects personal information generated as you use the application (e.g. mobile device type, IP address, operating system, date/time stamp, GPS location of calculation). The rehydration calculator collects no personal health information however the response team platform does collect patient personal health information. This information includes name, birth date, cell phone numbers, hospital record number, residence location (GPS), geometry of finger print and basic medical history as it relates to the main health problem (e.g. diarrheal disease). The Outbreak Responder Team may be the sole owner of said information, and/or the partner of the Outbreak Responder Team.

Use of Information Collected

When you register for a login, the information you provide about yourself forms the basis of your personal profile. This information is stored by the Outbreak Responder Team primarily to provide you with personalized content delivery, improve user experience, and manage your account. We do not provide your personal information to third parties without your express permission unless legally required to do so or done in order to verify your identity as a clinician or scientist. We use analytics software to track de-identified user data on how the application and website are used. This data is used for internal review and to optimize the user experience and outcomes. The information about the patient forms a basic electronic medical record or the patient. This information is stored by the Outbreak Responder Team primarily to improve knowledge of the disease, treatments and epidemiology to benefit the larger community. We reserve the right to publish articles, share findings in an educational setting, or share findings with health care professionals or governmental health officers on de-identified health information, user experience data, or epidemiologic data. from both the rehydration calculator and the response team platform. Standard Ethical Review Board approvals will be sought according to specific national and institutional requirements.

Protection of Information Collected

The Outbreak Responder Team follows generally accepted industry standard security measures for the protection of personal health information. Although the scope of Outbreak Responder is limited for use in developing countries where HIPAA compliance regulations do not apply, we follow all HIPAA Compliance regulations (USA) when possible. To ensure that your personal information is protected, the Outbreak Responder Team relies on a secure server, located outside the USA with close proximity to field sites (e.g. AWS Singapore), is password protected at multiple levels, and information that you provide has end-to-end encryption.

Legal Disclaimer

We reserve the right to disclose your personally identifiable information or a patient’s personal health information as required by law, and when we believe that disclosure, is necessary to protect our rights and/or comply with a judicial proceeding, court order, or legal process served on our application or Web site.

Access to Information Collected

If you wish to delete your personal information in your profile or patient’s information, you can do so at any time by contacting us at info@outbreakresponder.org. If you wish to remove your account from the database you can do so by contacting info@outbreakresponder.org. Information removed may continue in backup servers for a reasonable period of time but will no longer be viewable by other users.

External Emails

If you wish to subscribe to a Outbreak Responder Team newsletter, we will use your name and email address to send the newsletter to you. At the footer of each email a link is provided to allow you a way to easily unsubscribe.

Links

Within the application there may be links to other websites or software. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by Outbreak Responder Team and, therefore Outbreak Responder Team cannot be responsible for the privacy practices of other websites.

Children and Parents

The use of the software is not designed for children, less than or equal to 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information of users under 18 and will delete any information associated with underage users. Patient data however does include patients of all ages.

Business Transitions

In the event the Outbreak Responder Team goes through a transition of ownership. You will be notified of any such change in ownership or control of the personal information.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

The Outbreak Responder Team reserves the right to revise or update this Privacy Policy at any time. In the event that significant changes are made, the Outbreak Responder Team commits to advising all users at the time that any significant change is made. If we make material changes to this policy, we will notify you here, by email, or by means of a notice on our home page or application. If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement and other places we deem appropriate so that you are aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.
